Can "vice versa" in formal conversation be interpreted as "likewise?"?

In a conversation with a potential employer, I attempted to use "vice versa" to imply "likewise," when returning a compliment to her. By using "vice versa," did I just state the opposite or can "vice versa" be interpreted as "likewise?"
