What's the difference between reconnaissance and espionage?

Espionage would mean being caught out of uniform or wearing an enemy uniform recon would mean being in uniform or gillie suit whatever I know during the 2nd world war to dress as an enemy was counted as espionage and the rules of war or engagement were tossed aside or the geneva convention was void in that case..
