Tips for a beginner skateboarder?

Like what board should i buy, my budget extends to about $100 and i'm in Australia. My friend said he's going to teach me how to ollie but do you have any pointers that i could use to improve myself quickly because if i go to a skate park i can only ume that i'll get a lot of negative feedback from the boys, because i'm a girl.
